Funny Story! (Seriously) Must read!

There was a blackout in a house and someone said that they wanted a motor so that they would not have to put up with the lack of electrical energy. (Sounds technical, and even geeky I know) A smart engineer pointed out the statement, "I want a motor to fix the black out". Motors convert electrical energy into mechanical energy, sound energy and heat energy. That is, motors consume electrical energy, not produce electrical energy. It is generators, the general term, or more specifically dynamos that produce electrical energy. The disturbance of a magnetic field drives the production of electrical energy. This disturbance can be produced by water that in turn causes a wheel, a spinning metal loop which is driven by a petrol engine, wind turbines that spin, or a wheel that turns as a result of mechanical input eg. riding a bicycle to spin the wheel.

This story reminded me of year 9 arts festival. For those of you who went to a  school that enjoys laughing a people from the school I am talking about, you can laugh all you want. Basically, the story involved a town being enraged about a man who wanted to use his generator because they thought it consumed electrical energy, or some form of energy, but not heat energy. Either, I do not really remember the story, or that the driving force of the generator was not made clear, but they were definitely not angry about the heat energy or sound energy. However, a generator need not be driven by using fuel. Even if it was fuel, fuel can be renewable like the ethanol from corn. Ask a chemistry department at your university or at a university. Therefore, it is more likely than not, that the people of the town got angry for no reason.
